Are your straws and cutlery home compostable?
Yes. The key word is home: our products break down in a backyard compost bin and do not require an industrial composting facility.
What does home compostable mean?
Home compostable refers to materials that break down naturally in a home composting environment, typically a backyard compost bin or pile, without industrial processing.
What are bamboo fiber straws made of?
Bamboo fiber and plant starch, formed with a dry process that uses no water and no chemical additives. There is no plastic, no PLA, and no PFAS in the product.
Are your products certified compostable?
Yes. Our products are certified by BPI, the Biodegradable Products Institute, the leading certifier of compostable products in North America. American KGP Inc dba KGPeco is listed in the public BPI product catalog.
How long do KGPeco products take to compost?
In our home composting test, straws fully broke down in about 5 months. Actual time varies with moisture, heat, and how active the compost is. See the photos on our decomposition test page.
What are the straw wrappers made of?
Paper.
Are the straw wrappers home compostable?
Yes.
How should I dispose of your products?
Ideally in a compost or organics bin. If one is not available, the regular trash bin with other food waste works; the products still break down far faster than plastic.
Are bamboo fiber straws better than paper straws?
Paper straws go soggy within minutes and can leave a papery taste. Bamboo fiber straws stay firm for hours in hot or cold drinks, add no taste, and still compost at home.
Are bamboo fiber straws better than PLA straws?
PLA is a bioplastic that behaves like plastic unless it reaches an industrial composting facility, and most of the United States has no access to one. Bamboo fiber needs no facility; it composts in a backyard bin.
Durability and use
Do bamboo fiber straws get soggy?
No. They hold their shape in cold and hot drinks for hours. That is the main reason foodservice operators switch from paper.
Can I use them in hot drinks?
Yes. Bamboo fiber handles hot coffee and tea without softening or melting.
Do the straws add any taste to drinks?
No. Bamboo fiber is neutral in taste.
Which straw size do I need for boba?
Boba needs our wide 12 mm straws. The 8 mm smoothie size fits small fruit bits but not boba pearls. Pointy end versions pierce sealing film on capped drinks.
Can we wash and reuse your products?
Yes. They are not officially designed for reuse, but if you can reuse them, that is even more eco friendly.
Are your products gluten free?
Yes.

Yes.

Do you sell wholesale?

Is there a minimum order for wholesale?
No. There is no minimum order, though wholesale accounts are for businesses only.
Do you offer free samples?
Yes, for businesses. Request a sample pack through our contact page and tell us about your business and what you serve.
Do you ship nationwide?
Yes. Orders on this website over $30 ship free, and smaller website orders ship for a flat $5. Wholesale orders placed outside this website are quoted with freight.
What straw sizes do you carry?
Three diameters: 6 mm for regular drinks and cocktails, 8 mm for smoothies and shakes, and 12 mm for boba. Lengths run from 4 inch short straws to 9 inch standard, wrapped or unwrapped, with flat or pointy ends.
Custom branding
Can we print our logo on the straw wrappers?
Yes. We print custom paper wrappers in white or brown paper with up to two colors. Production typically takes 3 to 4 months after the design is finalized. Contact us for design guidelines and a quote.
